Disney Acquires Marvel... End of Times???

Well it looks like our children are going to be assaulted w/ horrible crossovers for decades to come... With Disney buying Marvel for $4Billion, I now fear a Wall-E and Wolverine series (they will be the perfect odd couple, oh and picture this... Wall-E rummaging through everything to find silverware. This silverware he now holds between his fingers, just so he can be like his bestest buddy *w00LVeeee*...)

Harbor Master - Game

I would be posting more today if it wasn't for my new addiction... What is that addiction you ask???

Well considerate reader, first off I just want to say "Thanks for asking"; and second, that addiction is to a game called Harbor Master (iPhone/Touch)...

If you remember a little game called Flight Control, then I'll just say Harbor Master is like that, but w/ boats, and its faster, and you get a cannon, and cyclones, and secret Pocket God episode...

If you don't know Flight Control (and theirfore have no refrence for this game), then I'll just have to let you know that you play as a "Harbor Master" in a "busy harbor", your job is to direct cargo ships into the proper docks... THE END

Buy it HERE for .99c

"The Boat That Rocked" Does Just That...

I was quite surprised when a friend described this film and I had no clue what he was talking about... It seems that half the world has watched this film (way back in April) and I haven't, and it's all b/c I'm apparently on the wrong half of the world... So please bear w/ me here if you're one of the lucky ones to have seen this in the theater...

The Boat That Rocked is about a band of "rogue DJs that captivated Britain" in the '60s while living/broadcasting on a boat in the North Sea... During this time the British government was opposed to anything that wasn't classical or jazz, and they did all they could to stop the new music from spreading and corrupting it's nation... This is the story of their fight...

It has a fantastic ensemble cast which includes:
  • Bill Nighy
  • Kenneth Branagh
  • Philip Seymour Hoffman
  • Nick Frost
  • Rhys Ifans
And for those of you who know the BBC series "The IT Crowd" you'll recognize both Chris O'Dowd AND Katherine Parkinson...

I highly recommend checking this out when it hits our shores this November 6th...

Steven Spielberg to Produce the Halo Movie

Looks like FSR has found out that Steven Spielberg is "in active negotiations to acquire the Halo film for Dreamworks" This of course kills that rumors that the movie had been scrapped... Although, the question still stands "Do we want to see Halo: The Movie???"

The reason Halo was so popular is b/c it was the game that brought FPS' to the console market... Not to say it was the first FPS on a console, but it was the first to have good controls... All other FPS' up until Halo were a struggle to play, and all FPS' since have copied Halo in some way...

This of course doesn't mean it deserves a move, but when we live in a time when any franchise can be immortalized in film (i.e. Asteroids) why the hell not use Halo...

Check out more HERE from FSR

The Nightman Cometh - Live

AvP: Marines - Trailer

I've been a fan of the AvP series since it was released (back in 1963 if I recall)... To this day I believe that AvP Gold is one of the most underrated games of our generation... 360 Dashboard Update Soon

Looks like we (anyone w/ an XBox 360) get a whole new dashboard on August 11...

Included is the feature to spend our real money on our avatars... I for one can't wait to have a fictitious representation of myself dressing better then I do...

Well, all sarcasm aside I kind of want that RC Warthog

Thanks to Gizmodo... go there to see the other pictures of the dashboad...

The Secret of NIMH To Be Revealed Again...

First off, if you haven't watched The Secret of NIMH then you have the social obligation to go out and watch it... NOW!!!... No, really, stop reading and go watch it... I don't want anyone who hasn't watched this phenomenal film to continue reading... Not b/c I'm putting in spoilers, but b/c you have to see it before it's destroyed forever (by it's newly re-imagined bastard of a brother)...

So it looks like Neil Burger (The Illusionist) is negotiating to write the script... Nobody knows how the film is going to look, but I tend to agree w/ FSR thoughts that it will probably be live action blended w/ CGI rats...

When will hollywood stop raping my childhood... OH, that's right, NEVER... *sigh* at least I have the original...

Get Your Hands On Fat Princess Thursday

For a person who doesn't own a PS3 I'm pretty excited for the release of Fat Princess on July 30th... I'm simply going to make my friends who own a PS3 pay the $14.99(us) price tag, and then I'll live on their couch for a week or so...

Those of you who don't know, Fat Princess is a capture the flag type game... and the flag is a princess...

Simple enough right???

HA, of course not...

While trying to retrieve your princess from the opposing team, you have to keep feeding their princess cake... lots and lots of cake to make her fat... the fatter she gets the harder it is for the other team to take her back.... And of course this is happening on the other side...

All this mixed w/ 5 different classes of fighters (all managed by hats, which can be taken from the opposing team in battle... so basically if you kill someone more powerful, you take their hat and you become as powerful), and 10 different levels...

If you have a PS3, get it... then invite me over :D

More info from the Playstation Blog here...

First Teaser Photo of the NEW Freddy Krueger

Now I'm not a fan of the Nightmare on Elm Street series (stop hating, I'll tell you why)... When I was younger I never watched horror films, they really didn't internist me... Years later however, I've gone back and watch a few (like "Prom Night") and have enjoyed them... So I'll probably watch the series before this new one comes out...

The real reason I posted this, is b/c Jackie Earle Haley is playing Freddy, and he is an amazing actor...

Encounters: What Should We Do???

Years ago my good friend Steve Davison wrote this piece about greeting new (and old) people in social situations... As of late I've been thinking about this exact topic... So I dredged up his writing and posted it here. All in hopes for some discussion from the readers (that means you)...

It's a little long, but I hope you read it all and participate in the discussion...

Male/Female Encounters of a Third Kind: Some Faux Pas

Readers, friends, those who kiss me a "hello" on the cheek, those who don't, and those who look at me like a fucking idiot when I try...

There is sometimes, something about a particular part of English culture that bugs me, which I have wanted to express in one form or another for a while now. It wouldn't be a problem if we were robots, afraid of interacting with people of the opposite sex, or if we, as Britons were isolated from the rest of the world and therefore knew nothing about other countries or the way they greeted each other, treated each other or acted around each other. But we are not robots. We are human beings and we thrive on interaction, and that is at the source of my desire to seek answers on this topic. Nevertheless, as I mentioned, I've been meaning to express myself about this for awhile and what better way to do it, to reach an audience, to perhaps get friend's and peer's feedback, in this day in age, than a myspace blog? Exactly...

Intrigued? Read on, dear, dear reader, I implore you…

Think of a party of approximately 30 guests you've been to where you've arrived, taken your coat off, put the bottles you bought in the fridge, chatted to the host for 15 minutes, and rested safely in your entourage of 4 people you arrived with, leaving the encounters with everybody else in the house to chance.

This scenario just doesn't happen in France (a country I chose because I've lived there and witnessed first hand such scenarios), where in the same situation every man in the room would shake every other mans hand, and kiss every girl on each cheek and every girl would kiss every other person at the party on each cheek. Instantly the ice is broken between males and females, there is deliberate contact, and therefore a conscious effort to feel comfortable in the social setting.

At first when I moved to France I thought it was painstakingly complicated when you meet people of different ages, or status to greet them in a different manner. For example when I met my girlfriend-at-the-time's mother we shook hands, but at some point, when she felt she knew me well enough, she would greet me with a kiss on each cheek... Now I see it as painstakingly obvious and a pain in the arse not to have a system whereby everybody knows exactly how to greet each other. There is no moment of embarrassment, as when I first arrived and knew nothing about this system and moved in to kiss her grandmother (who I was meeting for the first time) on the cheek as she stuck her hand out to shake mine!

It's funny. In my circles the girls and boys greet each other with one kiss on one cheek. However when I get introduced to new girls by friends or family I find it embarrassing when I lean in to kiss them on the cheek and get this look which says: "Excuse me? What the fuck are you doing?"

What's funnier is that since starting this article a week ago I have been to visit my friend's girlfriend and a female friend of hers and they both leaned in, as is normal in their circles, to kiss me a second time and caught me out! But now I know. I made a joke, and obliged. Next time I will kiss them twice.

Does this make a point? Should we have a universal method of greeting each other or should we not? Do you find it cute or annoying at the ground-zero moment when two people attempt to use different methods of greeting? Is it normal or weird to greet in such a personal manner? Is it comfortable or uncomfortable when people try to kiss you on the cheek? Do you respond with confidence or shyness? Do you maybe feel that it is cheating on your partner to get that close to another man? Or am I just paranoid?!

~Steve Davison

I for one wish that we here in Canada had a structured greeting ritual... For the simple reason that I also have greeted people in the wrong manor (on several occasions)... Either by not shaking hands, preforming the wrong handshake, not giving a hug, wanting to give a hug but waiting to long, gave a hug and wasn't supposed to...

Oh, and don't even get me started on kissing on the cheek... I was good at it in Australia were I supposed to do it (in certain groups)... but I can't continue doing it here (as I'm not European, and I'd be labeled as "the strange kissing-on-the-cheek Canadian guy" if I did)...

From here on in, I am going to make a point of:
  • shaking hands w/ men
  • hugging every girl
  • kissing girls (who are close to me) on the cheek (maybe)

What do you think???

Do you have the same greeting for all social encounters???

Or, does that greeting change depending on the group???

Do you just avoid physical greetings???

What are your greetings???

Sherlock Holmes - Trailer #2

Every since I was a young lad (that's right, I said "lad") I would read the works of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle... Most notably would be his Sherlock Holmes series (and others, including "The Lost World" where dinosaurs are found in South America) of which I am fully confident that Guy Richie is about to destroy...

Well, maybe "destroy" is to harsh of a word... I'm sure my memory of the stories have been muddled over the years, but I don't remember everything been painted w/ the "Michael Bay Paintbrush" (now only $24,999.00... Guaranteed to add to the box office gross, regardless of the films quality)...

I always had a great respect for Holmes, w/ his vast knowledge and ability to deduct conclusions from any given scenario... and now, we'll have to wait and see...

One the other hand, I guess corsets and explosions aren't all bad... and I can always go back and re-read the books...

Thanks to FSR for the heads up...

Left 4 Dead + Shaun of the Dead = Genius!!!

It's taken some time (and will take some more) but a Shaun of the Dead campaign is now being developed for Left 4 Dead... This comes to us by Biohaz4rd... It's delightfully called Left 4 Winchester, and you can watch the development progress on their site here...

I for one am a fan of both the movie and game, so I'll be eagerly waiting for it's arrive...

Get Ready For It...

I consider myself to be rather resourceful and skilled in many different areas... It is my opinion that everyone should have some experience in every area of life... From cutting down trees to socially engineering free pizza, and even fixing simple machines...

I do this b/c I don't like to rely on anything, and this keeps me prepared for the coming apocalypse... An apocalypse that is coming sooner then we thought...

A thick, dark and gooey mass is floating down from the Arctic... This mass is up to 15miles long, and organic... Now I've seen my fair share of disaster movies, and I can tell you EXACTLY what happened...

You see, some sort of government experiment was going down in the Arctic... I imagine it had to do w/ cutting huge sections of ice out of the ice caps... Using said sections as a giant magnifier to reflect the power of the sun, and destroy other nations (for oil or brides or whatever)...

No doubt they cut to much, and unleashed the very thing that killed the dinosaurs... That's right, and Organic Blob of Death (OBD for short).... And now the OBD is free, and hungry, and will stop at nothing to feed on other organic life... meaning us...

I for one can't wait to start an underground army to battle this beast (b/c we all know the army will screw something up and we'll have to save them)... All who are interested send me an email... We'll start figuring out cool names for the first dozen recruits. All the rest just get a number, as you'll be used as fodder to save the human race...

The following is a picture of our enemy... memorize this image, as we'll want no mistakes when we are in the fray...

Thanks to Boing Boing for the heads up on this... You'll be commended after the war...

Thanks to the Anchorage Daily News for doing the first recon on our enemy... We'll name our children after you, in honor of your sacrifice (as it's obvious that they are now all consumed by this horrendous beast)

Some xkcd to Cheer Everyone Up

Due to the last post, I decided to give you all a double dose of xkcd...

The Cove - A Shocking Documentary

I know, I usually post nice happy things that keep you all smiling... but sometimes, just sometimes, their is something that jumps out of the shadows and smacks me in the face... That *smack* to the face wakes me up, and I realize that I have to share this w/ the rest of you, no matter how upsetting it is...

* wow, I hyped that up pretty good *
/pats self on back/

This is one of those documentaries... Now it's quite obvious that the government is killing dolphins, but I still want to see what else this film has to say... and really, who doesn't like some really world stealth action (nobody, that's who)...

Their is more being said over at FSR, go check it out...

9 - New Poster = QR Code FUN!!!

Is it b/c I'm a nerd that I love this poster??? You don't have to answer that...

For those in the know, you should have taken your picture by now and followed the new content...

As for everyone else what you see in that poster is a QR Code, or a Quick Response Code... Essentially a super bar code (like on everyday items)... Why is this cool you ask??? Well I'll tell you...

Once you take a picture of the QR Code and analyze it w/ some software it will give you special information... This one for instance gives you a url for an "exclusive video" for 9...

These codes are hidden all over the world (much like Geo-Caching), so go explore...

For those iPhone users, check out Barcode
For those w/ a Blackberry check here
For those w/ a camera check here (it's just a google search)
and for everyone else, here is the url...

and lastly, thanks to /Film for the heads up on the poster

Things to Say During Sex

Ahhh, I love Venn diagrams... They make life so simple...

The above image is just piece of the whole thing... Get it all here at Boing Boing...

Natalie Portman Joins Thor

According to the awesome people over at FSR, it looks like Miss Natalie Portman will be joining the cast of Thor... I've never been a big Marvel fan, and Thor defiently wounldn't have been one of the characters I would have read about... So any inclination to see this film was low, until now...

Demolition City - Game

Well since this site has started out for Chuck, I think I would be a bad person if I didn't post something that he just suggested to me... So here it is, the first pseudo-submission from the man himself...

Enjoy

"The Dead Weathers" Interview Themselves

This is hilarious to me... I love when bands don't take themselves to seriously, and can release something like this... I guess the fact that all the members have been in the music game for some time now helps...

I highly recommend you check out Boing Boing for all the info... AND an extra video...

Ghostbusters Costumes for LBP

Why oh why isn't LBP (Little Big Planet) released for the 360?!?!?!

I guess my friends who own a PS3 are about to get a visit from me... Well, as long as they get these costumes that is...

Thanks to Kotaku

Fallout 3 - Mothership Zeta DLC

Looks like more DLC for Fallout 3 (that rhymed... unintentionally) arrives this August, and all for the low low price of $10... This time *something something* Aliens *something something* Atomizer *something something* awesome...

As you can probably tell, I don't play Fallout 3... Calm down, don't yell... I just don't have the time to devote to exploring the vast world created by Bethesda Softworks...

Aside from the VO, I really enjoy this trailer... I just hope the writing is up to par for the comic book readers out there, and that they didn't just pander to the movie crowd...

We Can Buy Prints of "A Softer World" Now... :D

A Softer World is a web comic that started in 2003. Created by Emily Horne and Joey Comeau. It has a wonderful balance of humor and stark realizations... Miss Horne has a gift of capturing moments on film (or I guess that would be flash cards now), and Mr Comeau always finds a way to bring the pictures to life w/ his writing... I highly reccomend that you check out thier collection of works, and if you enjoy them buy the prints...

Oh, don't forget to find the rollover text in all the the comics...

Also, it makes me happy that this is a Canadian project... and I'm a lil sad that I didn't try to find them while I was in Toronto... Then I could have hidden in the background of one of the pictures... you know, b/c TO is so small I would have EASILY found them o_O

District 9 - New Trailer

While staying in Toronto for this past mth, I came across allot advertisements for District 9. Most of which were posters denoting that bus stops are for "Humans Only"... This all peaked my interest for the film, and now this new trailer has push me over the edge (that's the "edge" of the "peak" that the posters put me on, and so then I'm falling for this movie (oh great, now it sounds like I'm in love w/ it... bah *shakes head in disbelief* )...)...

It's a pretty safe bet that I'll be at the theater this August 14th...

Thanks to FSR for the heads up...
